Interactive signs connect virtual world to real life

Cambridge, Mass.-based start-ups Aerva and LocaModa have tapped the popularity of text- and instant-messaging to create interactive digital signs that display messages sent via cell phones to people in nightclubs or other venues, or transmit information about polls and contests. "Our premise when we started this company five years ago was screens are going to be everywhere; handsets are going to be in every pocket. It seems crazy to not have the handset interact with screen," said Aerva CTO Sanjay Manandhar.
