Study: Gene signature can assess risk of breast cancer metastasis

National Cancer Institute researchers have identified a gene signature that increases by 20 times the chances of breast cancer progression in mice. They also found that in humans, the corresponding gene was able to predict disease recurrence in four out of five patients. The gene could prove useful in pinpointing women susceptible to breast cancer and devising personalized treatment, the study author said.
