House approves Senate budget compromise

In a 257-167 bipartisan vote, the House of Representatives approved a compromise budget bill adopted by the Senate that averts tax increases for most Americans. The measure prevents $600 billion of spending cuts and tax hikes from automatically taking effect today. House Republicans gave up on calls for spending cuts that likely would have been blocked in the Senate.
