U.S. budget deal seen as formula for slow growth

The budget deal wrangled by the White House and Republican leaders may steer the U.S. away from the precipice of recession but, economists say, is likely to do little to stimulate anything beyond the nation's current slow rate of growth. "We continue to anticipate a significant economic slowdown at the start of the year in response to fiscal drag and a contentious fiscal debate," said Nomura economist Lewis Alexander.
