Schwarzenegger proposal would eliminate one week of classes

In an effort to save money, California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger proposes cutting one week out of the 2009-10 school calendar, halt salary increases, suspend incentives for national certification and allow districts to eliminate a currently required science course. The proposal would cut $2.1 billion from this fiscal year's education budget and $3.1 billion from next year's.
