Free apps don't look like such a bargain to some older users

Applications, especially those offered for free, are likely to see a surge in downloads after the gift-giving holidays, but some boomers and seniors are casting a skeptical eye, critical of the utility and wary of exposure to unwanted marketing. "People with their iPads think they're so slick and in the know, when they don't have a clue about the game," says Ron Hall, a computer science student at the University of Oregon whose master's work centers on the ethics of technology. "And the game is to draw out as much information about your private life as possible for a myriad of purposes that are not in your best interest."
