A review of studies on the health benefits of the flavonoid epicatechin, found in dark chocolate, concludes more research is needed. Studies link the flavonoid to health benefits including reduced heart disease, hypertension and type 2 diabetes, but the authors note, "well-designed, randomized, controlled long-term studies with clinically meaningful endpoints are needed to better clarify the potential benefits."
