Should homeowners go with permanent or portable generators?

Homeowners in the Northeast have been buying generators in response to outage-causing storms. Permanent backup generators cost more to install than portable generators and might not be needed in some areas. But portable generators can be easily susceptible to the elements, according to Carissa Gingras, marketing manager of Briggs & Stratton.
