AAP revises statement on screening for retinopathy of prematurity

Carefully scheduled retinal examinations should be conducted by a knowledgeable and experienced ophthalmologist on preterm babies at risk for retinopathy of prematurity, the American Academy of Pediatrics said in a policy statement published in the journal Pediatrics. An effective screening program can identify infants who need treatment and help in timing future screening and treatment, the authors wrote.
