Antibiotics do not affect lower respiratory tract infections

Antibiotics may have little to no effect on treating lower respiratory tract infections, according to a study published in the journal Lancet. Researchers discovered little difference between adults taking antibiotics and placebos as treatment for the infections. Pneumonia cases, for which coughing is a major symptom, was not included in the study.
