Full-fiber ISPs outpace cable operators in push for faster Internet

Gigabit Internet speeds are taking hold around the U.S., leaving the broadband services of many cable-system operators in the dust, Shalini Ramachandran writes in this analysis. The cost of upgrading their Internet services is holding back many cable companies. Cox Communications CEO Pat Esser estimates that an extensive upgrade of his company's broadband network would involve "multiple billions" of dollars.
