Mo. officials urge residents to prepare for winter storms

Missouri residents should begin packing up their emergency survival kits to prepare for extreme winter storms, officials said. "Area residents should have emergency kits packed and ready to go, both at home and in their vehicles," said David Compton, Office of Emergency Management director in Barry County, Mo. "Alternate heating sources such as generators and kerosene heaters should be used with care. Generators should not be used inside the home or garage, due to the hazardous buildup of carbon monoxide, a deadly gas that is both odorless and tasteless," Compton added.
