Report: 2011 Mont. pipeline spill was worsened by delayed response

Less oil would have leaked from ExxonMobil's pipeline into Montana's Yellowstone River if the company's pipeline controllers sealed the line off as soon as issues surfaced, according to the Department of Transportation. About 1,500 barrels of crude oil spilled into the river on July 1, 2011, and Exxon has spent $135 million on repair and cleanup operations. The company is still reviewing the report, a spokeswoman said.
