Calif. teachers emphasize vocabulary, language in common core math

Teachers at a Los Angeles elementary school are integrating literacy into math as they transition their mostly English-language-learning students to a curriculum based on the Common Core State Standards. The math lessons emphasize understanding word problems, key vocabulary and phrases. Teacher Rebecca Harris said the common core has benefits "because it will help our students get to a better place in math as well as language."
