CMS says it will crack down on problem prescribers

The CMS has announced plans to refer doctors with questionable Medicare Part D prescribing patterns to state medical boards for consideration of disciplinary measures. A Medicare official said the agency sends insurers a list of prescribers who could be involved in fraud, based on an analysis of data. The agency also may move to require Part D prescribers to be enrolled as certified Medicare providers.
