GPS devices used to track Los Angeles County felons frequently fail

One-quarter of the GPS devices used to track the whereabouts of high-risk criminals in Los Angeles County do not work because of issues with batteries or faulty electronics, an audit has found. The firm responsible for the devices, Sentinel Offender Services, blamed probation officers and felons for the problems, but the audit found Sentinel also consistently failed to report faulty tracking devices as required in its contract.
