Heart Patients Get Check-Ups Without Leaving Home

Medtronic has won FDA approval to market CareLink, an Internet-based network that allows data to be sent from cardiac patients' implanted defibrillators to doctors' offices. Only Medtronic's GEM II DR/VR defibrillator is approved for use with the network, although analysts say the agency is likely to approve other defibrillator models for Web monitoring in the next year.
