Salmonella reports rise in Southeast

Cases of salmonella increased 50% in 2001, compared to 2000 rates. Investigators don't know how to account for the increase in the region, when other parts of the country are not being affected. Health officials recommend consumers buy eggs from producers with salmonella control programs, and also recommend all eggs be cooked until the yolk and white are both firm.
