Competition spurs hike in teacher pay

Increased competition within the teaching profession, along with a legislatively mandated salary increase, have pushed the average annual teacher salary in public schools in one 10-county Texas region to $46,933 this year -- the highest average salary in the state, according to a survey from the Texas Association of School Boards in Austin
