Guidebook publishers expand multiplatform reach

Publishers of travel guide books, such as Rough Guides and Lonely Planet, are beefing up their Web and mobile offerings and releasing abridged or topical editions of their titles in order to give readers more options. "We want to be in a position where, if the business suddenly collapses in five years, we have a plan," said Martin Dunford, publishing director of Rough Guides.
