High-profile construction projects appear a thing of the past

Even high-profile architects are scrounging for work in this economy. The end of massive scale, high-end design came with the opening of MGM Mirage's CityCenter in Las Vegas in December. Now designers are turning toward smaller projects and government-funded infrastructure work. "It's a problem if you think you can only do buildings," said Rafael Vinoly, who designed the 1,500-room hotel tower at CityCenter.
