New supply chain could save Wal-Mart billions

Wal-Mart plans to wrap its stores' supply chains into a single global direct-purchasing system, in an attempt to trim billions of dollars from its operating costs. The move, which will see purchases for Wal-Mart stores funneled through four global centers, will increase the company's bargaining power and reduce costs by 5% to 15% within five years, a company executive said.
