Business networking can be highly successful with the right approach, writes Jeff Haden. Start with a focus on meeting others' needs rather than your own, Haden advises. Effective networking calls for effective planning – categorize the people you could connect with based on how you can help them and how likely they are to be able to help you, always keeping the focus on what you can give. "Networking is based on a mutual exchange of value. An exchange requires giving and receiving. By giving first, you set the stage," Haden writes.
