FDNY reports record-low fire deaths, quicker response time

The New York City Fire Department says 2012 provided the fewest fire deaths and one of the fastest response times in agency history. Fire deaths decreased 12% compared with 2011, to 58; the previous record was 62 in 2010. The department's Emergency Medical Service reduced the response time for serious medical issues by one second, to six minutes, 30 seconds.
