The year ahead will pose several challenges for the hotel industry, including controlling distribution and monitoring brand image on social review sites, a number of hotel-brand executives say. However, opportunities such as improving technology and stronger hotel performance put the industry in a better position for growth in 2013. "An obvious opportunity is to grow the number of international travelers into this country. Growing international business is a win-win proposition because with this strategy you grow the size of the pie and drive better occupancy and rates for all brands," said David Kong, president and CEO of Best Western International.
