Major ad networks help pirates to thrive, researchers say

Major search engines and ad networks, including Google and Yahoo, are spending advertising cash on content piracy websites, according to a University of Southern California report. Putting systems in place to prevent branded content appearing on content-sharing sites would likely increase the price of ads on legitimate sites, but would also give brands more control over where their ads run, the researchers say.
