Tenn. switchgrass growers hold out hope for biofuel project

All of the production contracts entered into by farmers in Tennessee for a pilot switchgrass-to-ethanol project with Genera Energy are due to expire at the end of this year's harvest, but some of the growers are still hopeful that the project will move beyond the experimental phase and establish a market for their switchgrass. Genera President and CEO Kelly Tiller says the construction of a cellulosic ethanol plant by Genera's partner, DuPont Danisco, in Vonore, Tenn., shows that the project is still on track. "The message is exactly the same ... that this is the plan and this is the sizable opportunity that is coming down the road," Tiller said.
