Women get free birth control, preventive care benefits under ACA

Most women with private insurance now can receive free FDA-approved contraceptives and other preventive care measures without out-of-pocket costs such as co-insurance, deductibles or copayments. "Research shows that having access to these long-lasting contraceptives really does reduce the unintended pregnancy and abortion rates," the Kaiser Family Foundation's Alina Salganicoff said. While the requirement went into effect Aug. 1, many insurers' benefits are updated with the new year, she said.
