Rep. Shuster: High tax burden is hurting passengers, airline industry

House Transportation Committee Chairman Rep. Bill Shuster, R-Pa., raised concerns that the high federal tax burden on U.S. airlines is hurting passengers and the overall industry. “We can’t tax our passengers to death. It will just continue to hurt the industry,” said Shuster. Airlines for America CEO Nick Calio said airlines are strongly opposed to tax hikes that make travel more expensive for customers and could discourage air travel.
