Study: Low-fat diets don't cause weight gain

A study tracking more than 48,000 post-menopausal women over seven years concludes that lower-fat diets may not lead to substantial weight loss, but they also don't cause weight gain, as some have claimed. The study found that women who adopted the lower-fat diet initially lost about five pounds, but eventually gained back all but two pounds; a comparison group that did not go on a diet stayed at about the same weight.
