Ex-Viacom executive Scannell turns to Web for new venture

Herb Scannell, the former Viacom executive who helped build Nickelodeon into a programming giant, has secured $8 million in first-round funding for an online entertainment venture. Scannell's new company, dubbed Next New Networks, plans to build more than 30 "micro-television networks" offering short-form content.
