D.C. grocers giving away reusable bags

Supermarkets in Washington, D.C., are giving away reusable grocery bags in response to a 5-cent tax on paper and plastic bags, which was to take effect for D.C. grocers starting Jan. 1. Giant, Safeway and Trader Joe's are among the chains giving away reusable bags with purchases, while Harris Teeter will give the bags to customers who spend $20 and have a loyalty card, per this report.
