Students who are gifted design eco-friendly cities for competition

Seventh-grade students who are gifted at one New Jersey school are designing a clean, eco-friendly city with the help of a professional engineer -- part of a competition that challenges students to use engineering concepts as solutions to fiscal and ecological problems. Students use computer programs to design their cities, produce a physical model out of recycled materials, write an essay explaining their design and give an oral presentation for competition judges.
