Duration of obesity adds to diabetes risk

The longer people have a high BMI, the greater their risk of type 2 diabetes, University of Michigan researchers reported in the Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine. Race and age also were factors, and researchers said the increasing obesity rates among children, which could translate into higher diabetes rates for young adults, makes it more important to direct public health prevention programs at younger populations.
