IHS: WD pins hopes on hard drives filled with helium

Western Digital may be able to take market share from Seagate Technology, the world's leading supplier of hard-disk drives, with its forthcoming line of 3.5-inch drives filled with helium, according to IHS. The helium-filled HDDs, intended for use in data centers, are touted to have less friction for their moving parts, reducing energy consumption by 23% while boosting data-storage capacity by 40%.
