Former dropout picked as Naval Academy Rhodes scholar

At 17, a restless Nicholas Schmitz quit high school to enlist in the Marines, where he wowed his supervisors with his academic prowess and physical fitness. Selected to attend the Naval Academy via its prep school, Schmitz eventually rose to become first in his class and winner of a prestigious Rhodes scholarship to Oxford.
