Franchisors step up survival tactics

Franchisors are taking unusual steps to help their franchisees survive the economic crisis. They are modifying existing license fees, buying back franchises and co-signing loan papers, among other things. Franchises accounted for 11 million jobs in 2005, according to the International Franchise Association's most recent data.
