Manufacturing up for fifth straight month

New figures show that U.S. manufacturing increased for the fifth consecutive month in December. Analysts said the growth came as businesses sought to replenish inventories that had been allowed to shrink during the worst of the recession. "It looks like we're getting a solid, not necessarily spectacular, but a very solid recovery in manufacturing," said Paul Ashworth, a senior economist for Capital Economics.
