Parker takes office as first out mayor of major U.S. city

Out Houston Mayor Annise Parker was sworn into office on Monday. As the first openly gay mayor of the fourth largest U.S. city, Parker pledged to be a leader who addresses the concerns of all the city's residents. She also spoke directly to "my community, to those who are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgendered," calling her election "simply one step toward a tomorrow of greater justice."
