Guidelines call for glucose check at hospital admission

The blood sugar levels of all patients, regardless of prior diabetes diagnosis, should be assessed upon hospital admission, according to new guidelines from The Endocrine Society. The guidelines for hyperglycemia management in noncritical care settings also recommend bedside glucose testing for all patients with high glucose levels at admission and those with or without a history of diabetes who are on an IV or a feeding tube.
