The surging popularity of its Galaxy line of smartphones helped drive record profits at Samsung Electronics, the South Korean company revealed today in releasing its fourth-quarter estimates. Samsung said it sold more than 300 million cellphones in 2011. "The mobile business is generating a huge chunk of profit now," said James Song, a Daewoo Securities analyst. In one sour note, an Italian judge has rejected Samsung's request to ban Apple's iPhone 4S over alleged patent infringements.
