Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, airport project was BIM-based from the beginning

Last year was a big one for Dubai's aviation infrastructure in the United Arab Emirates, writes Dominic Ellis. And one reason for that is the Midfield Terminal Complex at the Abu Dhabi Airport, a project that is part of the city's plan to become a "garden of the gulf." The terminal a complex structure designed to meet the United Arab Emirates' sustainability standards that will be challenging to operate. For those reasons, the owner, Abu Dhabi Airport Companies, demanded BIM be used by the contract award-winner. A joint venture of CCC, Arabtec and TAV won the contract after it trained about 40 engineers in BIM and worked its bidding process based on preliminary BIM modeling it conducted.
