Korean supermarket chain H Mart combines several minishops under one roof, similar to an outdoor market. The company has expanded beyond the U.S. to open eight stores in Canada. Customers have compared H Mart to Wal-Mart Stores, but the former has diversified its U.S. customer base, with half of traffic non-Korean and non-Chinese, according to the company. H Mart's 45 stores generated about $1.1 billion in sales in 2012, according to RetailNet Group.
