How small differences in languages can inform instructional practice

Researchers are gaining a deeper understanding of how small differences in languages can inform language instruction. Some researchers point out that the differences in languages regarding how to categorize objects or interpret directions could assist language instructors in the classroom. "They felt that it moved them forward, away from teaching pronunciation and doing the 'repeat after me' activities," said Aneta Pavlenko, a professor of applied linguistics at Temple University, of her work with future language teachers.
