Hunt: Raising teachers' pay would be wise investment for N.C.

Jim Hunt, former North Carolina governor, writes in this commentary that the state must get serious about raising teachers' pay -- which currently ranks 46th out of 50 states. In this commentary, Hunt details how the state twice before has made bold moves to raise teachers' pay, at times directing more funds to incentive pay and rewarding teachers for extra days worked and greater professional development. The state was rewarded, he asserts, with improved student achievement. "We proved we could do it, and we proved it was a wise investment. Now we need to do it again," Hunt writes.
