Fishy numbers could lead to ban on sturgeon imports

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is considering a ban on sturgeon imports, despite assurances by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Flora and Fauna (Cites) that the beluga sturgeon population in the Caspian Sea has increased. Marine scientists dispute Cites' figures and the Fish and Wildlife Service fears influence from the lucrative beluga caviar industry may have skewed sturgeon population research.
