Work plentiful, but building costs high in Gulf South

With an estimated $250 billion in insurance, private and federal money pouring into the Gulf South, construction projects are booming, but unstable material prices could make things difficult for contractors. Gas and diesel prices that spiked after Hurricane Katrina, for instance, are still higher than a year earlier, and the higher oil prices are also affecting asphalt expenses.
