Automakers limp out of worst year since 1992

"The best thing about 2008 is that it's over," Toyota Motor Sales USA President Jim Lentz said. It was the year that car and truck sales dropped 18% across the industry, the worst figure since 1992 and the steepest year-on-year decline since 1974. General Motors and Chrysler were on the verge of collapse.
