Changing times write B. Dalton's final chapter

Barnes & Noble plans to close the remaining 50 B. Dalton Booksellers stores by the end of January, ending a 44-year run that began when Dayton Hudson opened the first store in Edina, Minn. An early adopter of computers and the second-largest U.S. bookseller in the late 1970s, B. Dalton's business had been hit hard in recent years by shoppers migrating to online booksellers and big-box stores.
