Florida city narrows down plans to demolish pier

The St. Petersburg City Council sifted through 23 proposals to redesign the St. Petersburg Pier, an 83-year-old structure that leads to a functionally obsolete building 1,100 feet out in Tampa Bay. The task force selected six proposals to demolish the pier and replace it with a shorter one, thus saving some of the $50 million available to use to enhance commercial and tourist activities in the area.
